The Toy Factory is a unique conversion condo revamped by Lanterna Homes in downtown Toronto, and it’s a great toy that any grown up would gladly take as a gift for Christmas.
Why The Toy Factory is one my favorite conversion lofts in Toronto and a hot spot for most young professionals. Toy Factory Lofts is a pioneering conversion from the original historic Irwin Toy factory to an urban mixed-use live-work complex containing 215 originally designed live-work lofts with over 20,000 square feet of commercial space. In 2005, the Toy Factory won the coveted Project of the Year award from the Greater Toronto Homebuilders’ Association and won in total an unprecedented 7 awards. The former Irwin Toy Factory was originally developed in the early 1900's and has recently been redeveloped/ converted by Lanterna to provide 215 residential loft units in the centre of Liberty Village. The Building has a mix of authentic hard lofts and new soft lofts on the higher floors. The neighborhood has all the amenities one could need in the shopping plaza behind the building.
Located just south of King St West and east of Dufferin St in the heart of Liberty Village this loft is paramount of how other Liberty Village Condos coarse themselves too, and frankly, I don't blame them. The Toy Factory is stunning as it contains all the features of the old use with high ceilings and exposed brick with concrete in some units, you will feel like you’re living in a factory rather than some high end Toronto condos.
The distance to all these great amenities such as Good Life Fitness and Metro Grocery to name a few plus all the award winning fine dining restaurant makes this neighborhood a go to place on the weekends, my favorite Irish Pub Brazen Head has the best nachos I have ever eaten plus one the sexiest patios in the city. A great vibe all around, I suggest you head down and judge for yourself.
Like most of the buildings that were factories in the heart of downtown this one was no different as you can see in the picture below the state of the building prior to the conversion. I have to say that Liberty Village has been the most surprising neighborhood that has been revitalized and the final product has exceeded all expectations.
I guess it's fair to say that every time I visit these lofts I can't help but think about all the toys that children received from all over Canada and how much this site is truly iconic to Toronto's history. That's what I love about Toy Factory; its history and what it did for Torontonians in the early 1900's, it was an inspirational building that created hope and joy for children, and now its created joy, happiness and great times for the lucky ones that live there. After all it's a toy factory so it should create happiness!
